These ten year olds would then fight Romulans. At some point, Q would show up and annoy everyone. The second draft replaced Duffy with Data, who would be killed by Picard.

This idea was proposed by Brent Spiner, who felt he was getting too old to play the perpetually youthful Data. Ooh, scary. But oh no, Data goes off piste and knocks some fruit over.

Wait, how did they get there in the first place? Seriously, that duckblind is carved in solid granite about three feet away from the town centre, how did it get there?

Worf shows up for some reason. Obviously creepy Admiral whatshisface tells Picard to stop dicking about and go and get Data. Around the planet, Data has stopped running amok on the surface and is now flying around for no apparent reason.

Then Data sods of for no apparent reason. Admiral Dougherty gives Picard twelve hours to subdue Data. Why twelve hours?

Who cares if this is just the first act? Normally such farming-related peril would prompt Picard to whoosh in and save the day with a timely lecture, but first there are important scenes where Troi and Riker get horny reading about war crimes.

Then Worf oversleeps. At some point the idea of it being about the dangers of forced relocation was shoehorned in, as that theme at least worked in several episodes.

At all. Untouched by progress, innocent of crime, all loving and all accepting. After a failed coup, they were made to leave the planet. And for that matter, if there was no technology, what did this coup look like?

A few pointed sticks and harsh words? It would have been as harmless and pitiful as an anti-Brexit rally. The whole planet. But when you live on a magic planet that makes you immortal, exile is a slow death sentence.

A race that have rejected technology except for the technology they need to crush their enemies. And then they just swan about, watching the rest of the galaxy die while they sit around making mediocre tapestries.

These people are not indigenous to this planet. They were never meant to be immortal. We'll simply be restoring them to their natural evolution.

Jean-Luc Picard: Who the hell are we to determine the next course of evolution for these people? Admiral Matthew Dougherty: Jean-Luc, there are people down there.

We'll be able to use the regenerative properties of this radiation to help billions. The Son'a have developed a procedure to collect the metaphasic particles from the planets rings.

Admiral Matthew Dougherty: That's right. We have the planet. They have the technology. A technology we can't duplicate. You know what that makes us? Admiral Matthew Dougherty: On Earth, petroleum once turned petty thugs into world leaders.

An entire new medical science will evolve. I understand your chief engineer has the use of his eyes for the first time in his life. Would you take that away from him?

I only know they inject something into the rings that starts a thermolytic reaction. When it's over, the planet will be uninhabitable for generations.

Jean-Luc Picard: Admiral, delay the procedure. Let my people look at the technology. Admiral Matthew Dougherty: Our best scientific minds already have.

We can't find any other way to do this. Jean-Luc Picard: Then the Son'a can establish a seperate colony on the planet until we do.

Admiral Matthew Dougherty: It would take ten years of normal exposure to begin to reverse their condition. Some of them won't survive that long.

Besides, they don't want to live in the middle of the Briar Patch. Who would? Jean-Luc Picard: The Ba'ku.

Forgot your password? Retrieve it. TV Shows. Star Trek fans were decidedly mixed in their reactions to this, the ninth big-screen feature in Paramount's lucrative Trek franchise, but die-hard loyalists will appreciate the way this Next Generation adventure rekindles the spirit of the original Trek TV series while combining a tolerable dose of New-Agey philosophy with a lighthearted plot for the TNG cast.

This time out, Picard Patrick Stewart and his executive crew must transport to a Shangri-la-like planet to see why their android crewmate Data Brent Spiner has run amuck in a village full of peaceful Ba'ku artisans who--thanks to their planet's "metaphasic radiation"--haven't aged in years.

It turns out there's a conspiracy afoot, masterminded by the devious, gruesomely aged Ru'afo F. Murray Abraham, hamming it up under makeup resembling a cosmetic surgeon's worst nightmare , who's in cahoots with a renegade Starfleet admiral Anthony Zerbe, in one of his final screen roles.

They covet the fountain-of-youth power of the Ba'ku planet, but because their takeover plan violates Starfleet's Prime Directive of noninterference, it's up to Picard and crew to stop the scheme.

Along the way, they all benefit from the metaphasic effect, which manifests itself as Worf's puberty visible as a conspicuous case of Klingon acne , Picard's youthful romance with a Ba'ku woman the lovely Donna Murphy , the touching though temporary return of Geordi's natural eyesight, and a moment when Troi asks Dr.

Crusher if she's noticed that her "boobs are firming up. As costar and director, Jonathan Frakes proves a capable carrier of the Star Trek flame--and it's nice to see women in their 40s portrayed as smart and sexy--but while this is surely an adequate Trek adventure, it doesn't quite rank with the best in the series.

IMDB: 6. Captain Picard: Do you remember when we used to be explorers? Captain Picard: Ru'afo, we're getting too old for this. Ad'har Ru'afo: After today, that won't be a problem Beverly Crusher: Okay Data.

Data: Saddle up, lock and load! Counselor Deanna Troi: On this ship? Anything's possible Commander Riker: Smooth as an android's bottom.

Ad'har Ru'afo: I will miss these flesh-stretching sessions, my dear. Geordi La Forge: I've never seen a sunrise. Not the way you see it. Commander Riker: I kiss you and you say "yuck"?

Admiral Matthew Dougherty: Jean-Luc, we're only moving people. Data: There they are. Beverly Crusher: You either need a bigger suit or a smaller neck.

Captain Picard: My collar size is the same as it was in the Academy. Beverly Crusher: Of course. Commander Riker: Klingons never do anything small, do you?

Captain Picard: I wish I could spare a few centuries to learn. Captain Picard: Mr. Worf, do you know Gilbert and Sullivan?

Captain Picard: In years, you never learned to swim? Anij: I just haven't got around to it yet. Captain Picard: Don't panic!

Anij: Have you ever experienced, a perfect moment in time? Captain Picard: A perfect moment? Anij: When time seemed to stop, and you could almost live, in that moment.

Captain Picard: Seeing my home planet from space, for the first time. Beverly Crusher: You either need a new uniform or a new neck.

Beverly Crusher: Of course it is. Beverly Crusher: I guess they don't believe in cocktails before dinner.

Deanna Troi: Oh, my God. Are they vegetarian? That's not in there! Jean-Luc Picard: They're composers, Worf. From the 19th century. William Riker: "Yuck"?

Deanna Troi: I never kissed you with a beard before. William Riker: I kiss you, and you say "yuck"? Jean-Luc Picard: Data, what's the last thing that you remember?

Data: [singing] His nose should pant, and his lip should curl-- Jean-Luc Picard: Uh, from the mission. Anij: Help! I can't swim! Jean-Luc Picard: Don't panic!

Worf: [sighs] No, sir. It is a gorch. Jean-Luc Picard: Gorch? Data: [whispers] Pimple, sir. Jean-Luc Picard: Oh, well, it's, uh-- it's hardly noticeable.

Data: I beg your pardon, sir?
